Snowboard trips often involve airline terminals, which, face it, can be ugly. But not all of them are. One of my favorites is the Cherry City airport, in Traverse City, Michigan. From there, you can go to Boyne Mountain and Boyne Highlands. Granted, most people won’t fly to Michigan for a ski trip. But if you happen to do so for whatever reason, Cherry City is a pleasant place to arrive at.
The first thing that hit me was the prairie-style design, using a lot of medium-toned wood and straight lines. Add in some columns with stone bases, a few stained-glass windows here, decent carpeting, and even a fireplace, and you’ve got a terminal building that wouldn’t be so bad if you got stuck with a delayed flight (assuming you were willing to go back through security).
